The Asian Development Bank has approved major funding for India, led by a USD 1 billion loan aimed at supporting the country’s urban reform agenda. The package is intended to help sustain investment in cities while backing reforms tied to more resilient and sustainable urban growth.
According to the available details, the financing will support the Government of India’s efforts to keep momentum in urban development initiatives across the country. The focus is on strengthening cities through continued investment and policy changes designed to improve long-term urban resilience.
The broader support also includes another USD 850 million loan linked to India’s rooftop solar programme. That part of the funding is expected to help speed up clean energy deployment, adding an energy transition component alongside the push for better urban infrastructure and governance.
Taken together, the two loans show how multilateral financing is being used to support both city development and renewable energy in India. The approvals highlight ADB’s role in backing projects that combine economic growth, urban modernization and climate-related resilience.
