Delaware County is bringing vaccinations directly into neighborhoods with its Wellness on Wheels program, a 33-foot mobile clinic now stopping in local communities ahead of the school year. This week, the clinic parked at Observatory Park in Upper Darby and began offering catch-up doses, including the MMR vaccine that protects against measles, mumps and rubella.
The effort comes as Pennsylvania reports measles activity at a level not seen in 30 years. With families preparing for back-to-school requirements and routine health visits, county officials are using the mobile clinic to make it easier to update missed immunizations close to home.
According to the report, three people were vaccinated on the clinic’s first day at the Upper Darby stop. While that is an early number, the launch reflects a broader push to improve access and remove barriers for parents who may need convenient vaccination options before classes begin.
By placing the clinic in neighborhood settings, Delaware County is focusing on prevention before measles becomes a larger local concern. The mobile approach also highlights how public health agencies are trying to reach families where they are as immunization demand rises before the new school year.
