Lancaster University is preparing to open its first campus in India, choosing Bengaluru as its entry point. According to the announcement, the UK-based institution also wants to expand further with another campus at Karnataka's proposed Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation, or KWIN, City.
The Bengaluru campus is expected to offer degree programs in business, management and computing. That course mix points to a focus on areas with strong student demand in the city, which is widely seen as a major hub for technology, startups and higher education.
The proposed move into KWIN City suggests a broader long-term plan in Karnataka rather than a single-city presence. If completed, the expansion would give Lancaster University a larger footprint in the state and link its India strategy to a new education and innovation-focused development.
The project reflects a wider push by global universities to build a direct presence in India as demand grows for international academic options closer to home. For Bengaluru and Karnataka, the plan could strengthen the region's appeal as a destination for overseas higher education partnerships.
