Demand for diamond jewellery in India is picking up strongly, according to CaratLane Managing Director Saumen Bhaumik. The company says consumer interest in the category is increasing at a time when gold prices have remained volatile.

A key takeaway from CaratLane’s view of the market is the strength of natural diamonds in its business. The retailer reported that more than 90% of its sales come from natural diamonds, suggesting that buyers continue to prefer them even as the wider jewellery market adapts to changing price trends.

The update points to a notable shift in shopper behaviour in India’s jewellery segment. While gold remains central to the market, fluctuations in gold prices appear to be coinciding with faster momentum for diamond jewellery, giving the category a stronger position among consumers.

CaratLane’s comments highlight growing confidence in diamond jewellery demand in India and reinforce the role of natural diamonds in that expansion. For the broader jewellery industry, the trend suggests that diamonds are becoming an increasingly important part of purchase decisions as buyers respond to evolving market conditions.
