Mercstone International has partnered with Thailand-based Assara Electric to make electric scooters in West Bengal. The companies plan to set up a new manufacturing unit at Sankrail in Howrah, marking a cross-border tie-up in India’s fast-growing electric vehicle market.
According to the announcement, the project will be developed in phases with an investment of ₹250 crore. The facility is expected to focus on e-scooter production in Bengal, adding a new manufacturing base in eastern India.
The planned plant is also aimed at generating jobs in the region. A project of this size could strengthen local industrial activity in Howrah while helping West Bengal expand its presence in electric mobility manufacturing.
The Mercstone-Assara venture also aligns with the broader push to build an India-wide EV ecosystem. By combining local production with overseas collaboration, the project reflects growing interest in scaling electric two-wheeler manufacturing in India.
