OCBC is using agentic AI to shorten one of private banking’s slowest processes: onboarding new clients. The bank says opening an account can often take six weeks or longer, but its AI-enabled approach is designed to bring that timeline down to 15 business days.

At the center of the effort is OCBC’s Helios platform, which shifts more compliance work to the start of the process. By front-loading checks earlier, the bank aims to identify issues sooner, reduce delays later in onboarding, and move eligible applications through more efficiently.

The project also reflects a broader rethink of compliance inside private banking. Rather than treating compliance only as a control function, OCBC is positioning it as a way to improve customer acquisition by helping surface higher-quality leads for its private banking business.

The move highlights how banks are applying AI to operational bottlenecks where speed and regulatory scrutiny often collide. In private banking, where account opening can be complex and documentation-heavy, a faster and more structured compliance workflow could have a meaningful impact on both client experience and business growth.
