Hyundai Motor India’s Q1 FY27 update showed a mixed start to the year, with stronger domestic demand helping the company in its home market but not enough to lift overall vehicle volumes. Total sales for the quarter came in at 178,082 vehicles, down 1.3% from 180,399 a year earlier.
The main positive was domestic performance. Hyundai Motor India reported domestic sales of 139,374 vehicles in Q1 FY27, up 5.4% year over year from 132,259. That suggests the company saw improved momentum in India even as the broader quarterly picture remained uneven.
Exports appear to have been the weaker part of the business during the quarter. Based on the reported total and domestic figures, export sales were about 38,708 vehicles, compared with roughly 48,140 in the same period last year. That decline in overseas shipments offset the gain in domestic sales and pulled overall volume slightly lower.
The earnings call highlights point to a business balancing two different trends: better growth in India and softer export performance. For investors tracking Hyundai Motor India, the quarter suggests domestic demand remained supportive, while export weakness was a key reason total sales slipped on a year-over-year basis.
