Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram near Visakhapatnam, marking the launch of a major new aviation hub for the region. The greenfield airport is expected to strengthen air links for north Andhra Pradesh and parts of southern Odisha.
According to the announcement, commercial operations at the new Vizag airport are set to begin on August 17. Flight services are expected to shift to the Bhogapuram facility from that date, bringing regular passenger traffic to the newly opened airport.
The project is being positioned as an important infrastructure upgrade for the Visakhapatnam area. Better airport capacity and improved connectivity could support business travel, tourism and regional mobility, while also easing pressure on existing air travel arrangements.
The new airport is also expected to handle a large passenger load as operations ramp up. With its opening, Bhogapuram is set to become a key gateway for travelers using the Visakhapatnam region and nearby districts in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
