India’s gross Goods and Services Tax collection rose more than 15% in July, crossing ₹2.11 lakh crore, according to data released on the GST portal. The increase points to solid tax inflows at the start of the month, with import-related receipts showing particularly strong growth.
Domestic GST collections also improved, rising by more than 10% to about ₹1.45 lakh crore. That trend suggests underlying consumption remained healthy, giving support to the broader revenue picture even as import-related taxes provided an extra push.
The latest figures indicate that both internal demand and external trade-linked activity contributed to the July outcome. Stronger collections from domestic sources are being read as a sign of pickup in spending, while the import component added significant momentum to the total.
Overall, the July GST numbers show continued strength in indirect tax receipts, with total collections staying above the ₹2 lakh crore mark. The mix of better domestic revenues and robust import growth made July a strong month for GST collections.
