IndiGo has operated the first cargo flight from Navi Mumbai airport, marking the start of freighter services at the new greenfield hub. The flight departed for Sharjah on Saturday and was flown using the airline’s Airbus A321 freighter.
The move is significant for cargo operations in the Mumbai region because IndiGo is also planning to run regular freighter services from Navi Mumbai. That points to a wider shift in logistics activity as the new airport starts handling more specialized traffic.
The timing is tied to planned changes at Mumbai’s existing airport. Mumbai International Airport Ltd intends to suspend freighter flights to carry out airside improvement works, creating an opening for cargo movements to transition to Navi Mumbai.
With this first flight, Navi Mumbai airport has taken an early step toward becoming a cargo gateway alongside its future passenger role. For IndiGo, the launch strengthens its air freight network while positioning the airline to capture demand as operations adjust across the Mumbai airport system.
