Andhra Pradesh is set to add a major new aviation hub with the opening of Bhogapuram airport on August 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the project, which will become the state's fourth international airport and a significant addition to its transport network.
The airport has been developed by GMR Group as a greenfield project with an investment of Rs 4,750 crore. Its launch is expected to strengthen air links for the region and support future growth in passenger and transport demand.
Bhogapuram airport is also expected to improve access to North Andhra, an area that stands to benefit from better domestic and international connectivity. The new facility is seen as an important infrastructure upgrade that could make travel easier for residents, businesses and visitors.
Another key benefit is the likely easing of pressure on Visakhapatnam Airport, which currently handles much of the area's air traffic. With Bhogapuram coming into operation, Andhra Pradesh's aviation capacity is set for a notable expansion.
