Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru have developed an indigenous AI-powered diabetes-care system called SugarSight. The project combines an artificial intelligence-based diabetes platform with a low-cost artificial pancreas system designed for use in India.

A key focus of the effort is affordability. According to the available details, the team is aiming to bring the cost down to about ₹2 lakh, a move that could make advanced diabetes technology more accessible to more patients compared with higher-priced options.

The development is notable because it brings together AI-driven care and a homegrown medical device approach under one system. By building the technology locally, the IISc team is also targeting a major gap in access to diabetes management tools in the Indian market.
