Smart has offered an early look at the upcoming #2, the electric replacement for the long-running Fortwo, through a series of murals displayed around the world. The campaign has effectively exposed the small EV's styling before the company stages its full reveal.

The new Smart #2 signals a return to the brand's traditional city-car focus. Due next year, the model is expected to become the UK's smallest electric car, putting Smart back into the ultra-compact segment that originally defined the marque.

A complete unveiling is still planned for the Paris motor show in October, but the teaser artwork has already given a strong indication of the car's design direction. That means attention is now shifting from the preview to what Smart will confirm when the production model is presented in full.

As the Fortwo successor, the Smart #2 is likely to attract buyers looking for a very small electric car designed for urban driving. More details on the new city EV should emerge when Smart takes the wraps off it in Paris.
