Indonesia’s state-owned airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, operating under the InJourney Airports brand, is promoting six regional airports as hub gateways to strengthen air connectivity between ASEAN and China.
The initiative points to a broader effort to use regional aviation infrastructure more effectively, rather than relying only on Indonesia’s biggest airports. By positioning selected airports as hubs, the company is aiming to improve access, support more efficient travel routes and deepen links with key markets in the region.
Stronger ASEAN-China connectivity could bring wider economic benefits for Indonesia, including support for tourism, business travel and the movement of goods. Better regional airport connections may also help spread international traffic more evenly across the country and open up more destinations to overseas travelers.
The plan highlights how airport operators are increasingly focusing on network development as well as infrastructure. For Indonesia, promoting six hub airports is part of a strategy to reinforce its role in regional aviation and strengthen ties with China and the wider ASEAN market.
