Google is preparing to remove one of Gmail's long-standing power-user tools. Beginning in January 2027, Gmail will no longer let users send messages from third-party email addresses through its web interface or mobile apps.
The change affects people who have linked outside accounts and use Gmail to send mail as another address, including Yahoo, Outlook, or a custom personal domain. For those users, Gmail has served as a central place to manage multiple identities without switching between different email services.
Once this update arrives, that workflow will change. Users who rely on Gmail's "Send as" option for non-Gmail addresses will need to stop using Gmail as the sending app for those accounts and adjust how they handle outgoing messages.
The January 2027 timeline gives users time to review any connected third-party sending addresses and prepare for the shift. Even though Gmail will remain a major email hub, this decision removes a feature that has been especially useful for advanced users managing several accounts in one place.
