REGENXBIO said it presented positive long-term results for surabgene lomparvovec, also known as sura-vec, at the American Society of Retina Specialists annual meeting. The update focused on the company’s one-time gene therapy approach for wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

According to the company, the treatment showed durable efficacy at dose levels similar to those now being studied in late-stage trials. In wet AMD patients who had previously needed frequent anti-VEGF injections, vision was reported as stable to improved through five years, pointing to sustained benefit over an extended follow-up period.

The presentation adds to investor and clinical interest in whether gene therapy can offer a longer-lasting option for chronic retinal diseases that often require repeated treatment. Wet AMD and diabetic retinopathy are major causes of vision loss, and therapies that can maintain outcomes with a one-time administration remain a closely watched area of development.

While the announcement highlighted encouraging long-term findings, the company’s latest update is primarily a conference presentation rather than a full peer-reviewed report. Even so, the data mark another milestone for REGENXBIO as it advances sura-vec in ongoing late-stage studies for retinal disease.
