Electronic Arts has been acquired by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and an investor consortium in a deal valued at $55 billion. The transaction takes the video game company private and ends its 36-year period as a publicly listed business.
EA is known for major franchises including The Sims, Madden NFL and Battlefield. The acquisition places the company under the ownership of the Saudi wealth fund and its investment partners.
By leaving the public markets, EA can pursue longer-term business planning without the same pressure associated with quarterly financial disclosures. The deal marks a major shift in the company’s ownership and future strategic direction.
