India’s Lok Sabha has approved the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, a legislative update aimed at bringing rules for banking records in legal proceedings in line with the digital age.

The measure replaces or updates provisions from an older statute and focuses on how electronic banking records can be presented as evidence in court. Its approval reflects the growing role of digital documents in legal and financial matters.

The bill was passed without debate as opposition members protested and proceedings were disrupted. The approval came despite the lack of a detailed discussion on the measure in the House.
