The Lok Sabha has passed the Bankers' Books Evidence Bill, 2026, a measure aimed at updating how banking records are treated as evidence and bringing the law in line with digital banking practices. The move reflects the broader shift in India’s financial system from paper-based processes to electronic records.

Alongside the banking legislation, Parliament’s discussions also touched on E20 fuel, with the government indicating that the blend is safe for use. At the same time, it was noted that E20 can lead to a small drop in fuel efficiency, an issue that remains relevant for vehicle owners and the auto sector as cleaner fuel adoption expands.

Electric vehicles were another area in focus, with EV penetration reported to have risen sharply to 8.26% by FY26. That figure points to continued growth in the transition toward electric mobility, even as policymakers and industry stakeholders track infrastructure, affordability and adoption trends.

The wider policy conversation also included gig workers, highlighting how Parliament is weighing changes across finance, transport, energy and labour at the same time. Taken together, the updates show an effort to modernize regulation while responding to fast-moving shifts in the economy and everyday services.
