F/i’s “Invisible Men,” originally released in 1985, is receiving a 2026 reissue that brings renewed attention to one of the band’s deeply underground releases. The album is tied to the group’s early period and its unconventional history outside the established music industry.
Even Richard Franecki, F/i’s founder, did not retain copies of the band’s earliest albums. He has explained that those recordings were privately issued through the group’s fictional “Uddersounds” label, a circumstance that placed them apart from F/i’s later discography.
That background helps frame “Invisible Men” as part of F/i’s obscure 1980s catalog rather than a conventional commercial release. The 2026 reissue offers a new point of entry into the band’s early work and its self-managed approach to distributing music.
The release also highlights how limited and difficult to trace underground albums from the era can become, especially when they were circulated privately and later excluded from an artist’s official discography.
