According to the report, the aircraft had remained idle for years at an airfield north of Seattle. The unfinished jet, described as a dormant early-build airframe, reportedly sat with weighted fixtures attached to its wings rather than engines, underscoring how far it was from a normal operating configuration.
The decision to scrap that aircraft points to the scale of the change-incorporation process now facing Boeing. Folding major updates into aircraft built earlier in a program can be labor-intensive and costly, especially on a large twin-aisle model intended to carry roughly 400 passengers.
