According to the report, symptom-free adults with very high levels of p-tau217 had a 78% likelihood of cognitive decline within 10 years. The findings suggest the test may help identify elevated risk in a five- to 10-year window, potentially long before noticeable symptoms appear.
Researchers are increasingly focused on blood-based tools because they may be less invasive and easier to use than other forms of Alzheimer's screening. A test like this could eventually support earlier monitoring, risk assessment and planning for patients and families if further validated.
