Tata Power said it has received a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to supply 324 MW of power from its 1,000 MW pumped hydro storage project in Maharashtra. The development marks a key step for the company’s storage portfolio as India expands capacity to support a more flexible power system.
The award came under SECI’s tariff-based global competitive bidding process for procurement of 1,500 MW / 12,000 MWh of power from pumped hydro storage projects being developed across the country. Tata Power’s allocation forms part of that broader national push to add large-scale energy storage infrastructure.
Pumped hydro storage projects are increasingly being positioned as an important part of the energy mix because they can help manage demand and improve the availability of power over longer durations. In this case, the LoA ties a portion of Tata Power’s Maharashtra project to SECI’s storage-linked supply program.
For Tata Power, the award strengthens its role in India’s evolving clean energy and storage market. It also highlights continued momentum in competitive bidding for projects designed to improve grid support as renewable energy capacity grows.
