Colossal Biosciences is reportedly in discussions to raise new capital at a valuation of between $20 billion and $30 billion. If completed in that range, the financing would mark a major jump for the de-extinction startup and could roughly double or triple its previous valuation.

The company has drawn wide attention for its efforts to bring back extinct species using genetic science. Interest around Colossal increased further after it disclosed last year that it was working on an attempt involving the dire wolf, using genetic material recovered from fossils.

That ambition has also sparked debate, with critics questioning both the scientific framing and the broader implications of de-extinction projects. Even so, the reported fundraising talks suggest investors may still see significant commercial potential in the company’s platform, brand, and long-term research ambitions.

A deal has not been confirmed, and reported talks do not always lead to a completed round. Still, the valuation being discussed shows how strongly some backers may be willing to price one of the highest-profile companies working at the intersection of biotech, genetics, and speculative conservation science.
