Abu Dhabi has approved a $6.2 billion gas development project aimed at strengthening energy supply in the United Arab Emirates. The investment will go toward developing the Umm Shaif Gas Cap, a move designed to lift natural gas production and support the country’s broader energy needs.
The project will be carried out by Abu Dhabi’s national oil company, which is directing significant capital into the field as part of its gas growth plans. By advancing the Umm Shaif Gas Cap, the company is targeting higher domestic gas availability while also improving capacity for liquefied natural gas exports.
The decision highlights the emirate’s continued focus on expanding its gas resources alongside its established oil operations. Increasing gas output can help the UAE meet rising demand at home while also strengthening its position in global LNG markets.
With the approval now in place, the development stands out as a major energy investment for Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE. The $6.2 billion commitment underlines the strategic importance of natural gas production and export growth in the country’s long-term energy agenda.
