Widespread rain across Marathwada has brought relief to farmers and improved the outlook for kharif crops in the region. After a period of concern over weak monsoon progress, the latest showers have helped fields recover and supported crop growth in several areas.
According to the available update, eight districts in Marathwada received an average of 19 mm of rain over the past 24 hours. Since June 1, the region has recorded 205 mm of rainfall. Even with the recent improvement, Marathwada is still running a 13% rainfall deficit compared with normal levels.
The fresh spell is being seen as important for kharif cultivation, which depends heavily on timely monsoon rain during the early and middle stages of the season. Better soil moisture from these showers can help stabilize crops that were under stress and reduce some of the uncertainty faced by growers.
