The Gujarat government is planning to establish de-addiction centres at all 34 district hospitals across the state. Each facility is expected to have 15 beds, expanding access to addiction treatment through the public health system.
According to the announced plan, Rs 14.90 crore has been approved for the rollout. The move is aimed at making treatment services available closer to where patients live, rather than limiting care to a smaller number of specialised locations.
The new centres are set to provide a range of support, including detox services, counseling, mental health care and rehabilitation. By placing these services within district hospitals, the state is seeking to create a more integrated response to substance dependence and related health needs.
The expansion could improve early access to treatment and follow-up care for people dealing with addiction. It also signals a broader effort to strengthen local hospital-based support for recovery and mental health management in Gujarat.
