Indonesia’s Agriculture Ministry is working with sovereign wealth fund Danantara to develop an integrated coconut downstream industry, a move aimed at strengthening domestic processing and creating more value from the country’s coconut output.

The partnership is focused on increasing absorption of raw coconut materials inside Indonesia rather than relying heavily on unprocessed commodity flows. By expanding downstream capacity, the government is seeking to support a more connected value chain from producers to processors and finished products.

The plan also reflects a broader push to improve the competitiveness of Indonesia’s coconut sector. A more integrated industry could help channel supply into domestic manufacturing, support industrial development, and reduce dependence on exporting raw materials with limited added value.

For Indonesia, which has a large agricultural base, the initiative highlights the importance of downstream investment in turning farm commodities into higher-value products. The collaboration between the ministry and Danantara signals that coconut processing is being treated as a strategic area for business growth and industrial expansion.
