The European Commission has approved the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, giving the $110 billion transaction a key regulatory win in Europe. The clearance is tied to conditions, with the companies required to fully honor commitments already presented during the review process.
The decision marks an important step for the media combination, which would reshape the entertainment landscape if it moves forward. European regulators signaled that the deal can proceed within the region so long as the agreed remedies are carried out in full.
Even with the EU decision, the merger still faces pressure in the United States. The transaction has been paused there because of a lawsuit brought by 12 state attorneys general, creating a separate legal hurdle outside the European review.
That leaves the deal in a mixed position: approved in Europe under conditions, but still entangled in U.S. court action. For now, the companies have secured one major clearance, while the broader future of the merger remains tied to whether the remaining legal and regulatory obstacles can be resolved.
