Philadelphia-area food brands are adjusting their products as demand shifts with the rise of GLP-1 weight-loss medications. With about one in eight Americans using the drugs, companies are paying closer attention to how these consumers eat, especially their interest in protein-rich and portion-conscious options.
Philly Pretzel Factory is preparing a higher-protein version of its signature soft pretzel. The chain’s current pretzel already contains around 12 grams of protein, and the company says an option with significantly more is on the way. The move reflects a broader effort to make familiar comfort foods fit new nutrition priorities.
Other well-known local names are also taking notice. Campbell’s and Honeygrow are among the brands responding as GLP-1 users increasingly look for meals that feel lighter, more filling, and more aligned with changing appetites. Soups and other simple, protein-forward menu items appear to be part of that strategy.
The trend shows how quickly medication-driven consumer habits can influence the food business. For legacy brands and restaurant chains alike, the challenge is no longer just offering indulgent favorites, but updating them for customers who want convenience, taste, and nutrition in a different balance.
