A 21-year-old thalassemia patient in Dhanbad has died after an alleged delay in arranging a 108 ambulance for transfer to RIMS Ranchi, according to initial reports. The case has drawn attention to emergency transport availability and the challenges faced by patients needing urgent referral care.
The reported delay is central to the allegations, with the patient’s transfer said to have been held up because an ambulance was not available in time. Thalassemia patients often require regular and sometimes urgent medical support, making timely access to higher medical centres especially important when complications arise.
Following the death, officials have ordered a probe to examine the circumstances surrounding the ambulance service and the transfer process. The inquiry is expected to look into whether there was any lapse in emergency response and how the referral was handled.
