Three men have been jailed in the UK after posing as police officers in a crypto fraud worth more than £4 million, or about $5 million. The sentences, which reached as high as 11 years, were handed down at Southwark Crown Court.
The case followed an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, which uncovered a scheme built around impersonating law enforcement. According to the report, the men used that false identity to steal large amounts of cryptocurrency from victims in the UK.
Investigators said the proceeds were later spent on an extravagant lifestyle, including luxury cars and trips to the Maldives. The spending trail highlighted how stolen digital assets can be converted into real-world purchases after a fraud is carried out.
