Thailand is emerging as an unexpected beneficiary of the global AI boom, with foreign investment applications rising sharply in 2026. According to the country’s Board of Investment, overseas firms applied to invest 1.37 trillion baht, or about $40.6 billion, in the first six months of the year.
That total marks an 80% increase from the same period a year earlier, highlighting how rapidly investor interest has accelerated. While Thailand is not usually seen as a central player in the AI story, the latest figures suggest it is gaining attention as companies look for places to expand alongside demand linked to artificial intelligence.
The surge points to a broader shift in how global businesses are positioning capital in Asia. As AI-related growth reshapes investment priorities, Thailand appears to be attracting a larger share of cross-border interest than in previous years.
The data also strengthens the view that the AI wave is having effects well beyond the biggest technology hubs. For Thailand, the rise in foreign investment bids signals a notable change in momentum and a potentially larger role in the region’s next phase of tech-driven business growth.
