Mumbai food safety authorities have shut down four bakeries after finding violations linked to missing licences and hygiene standards. The action was taken by the Mumbai FDA as part of a wider inspection drive focused on compliance in the city’s bakery sector.
According to the reported figures, officials inspected 34 bakeries during the operation. Beyond the four closures, five licences were suspended, showing that regulators found multiple cases serious enough to warrant stronger enforcement.
The inspection campaign also led to 22 improvement notices, indicating that many outlets were asked to address shortcomings and bring their facilities in line with food safety rules. In addition, three establishments were fined during the drive.
The action highlights increased scrutiny of food businesses in Mumbai, especially over licensing and sanitation requirements. For bakery operators, the enforcement serves as a reminder that gaps in documentation and hygiene can lead to suspension, penalties or closure.
