India is preparing a wider diplomatic outreach for its BRICS presidency, with plans to invite regional groupings to its summit in September. As part of that approach, Bangladesh’s prime minister is set to be invited in the capacity of BIMSTEC chair, linking the BRICS meeting to South and Southeast Asian regional cooperation.
The reported move suggests New Delhi wants the summit to go beyond the core BRICS members and include engagement with neighboring blocs. BIMSTEC and ASEAN are among the organizations expected to receive attention as India looks to build a broader conversation around regional connectivity, development and cooperation.
If the plan goes ahead, leaders connected to these groupings could travel to New Delhi for the summit. That would give India a chance to use its BRICS chairmanship to deepen ties with partner forums and bring multiple regional voices into the same diplomatic space.
The outreach also underlines how India is using major international platforms to strengthen links across Asia. Inviting the Bangladesh prime minister as BIMSTEC chair fits that strategy, positioning the September summit as not only a BRICS event but also a venue for wider regional engagement.
