India's sub-junior boys team opened its FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship campaign in dominant fashion, recording big wins over Pakistan and hosts Oman. The Indian side beat Pakistan 7-3 before following it up with an even more one-sided 10-1 result against Oman.
Those back-to-back victories underline a confident start for the boys, who showed strong attacking output in both matches. Scoring freely against two different opponents, including a traditional rival and the home team, gave India early momentum in the competition.
The sub-junior girls team, however, faced a tougher test in its match against China. India battled throughout but ended up on the wrong side of a 6-3 scoreline after a competitive effort.
Taken together, the results gave India a mixed opening at the tournament. The boys announced themselves as one of the early strong performers, while the girls were left to regroup after a demanding encounter with China.
