BNP Paribas Cardif has signed a definitive agreement to buy about 26% of IndiaFirst Life Insurance Company from Warburg Pincus. The proposed transaction marks a notable move by the French insurer as it seeks a stronger foothold in India’s life insurance sector.

The deal, announced on Friday, is still subject to regulatory approval. Once completed, the transaction will transfer a significant holding in IndiaFirst Life from private equity investor Warburg Pincus to BNP Paribas Cardif.

The acquisition reflects rising global interest in India’s fast-growing life insurance market. For BNP Paribas Cardif, the investment adds scale in a market where long-term savings and protection products continue to draw attention from both insurers and investors.

For IndiaFirst Life, the stake purchase signals a change in its shareholder mix while reinforcing attention on the company’s place in India’s expanding insurance industry. The agreement also highlights continued deal activity in financial services as international players look for growth opportunities in the country.
