The United States strengthened its position as the leading force in liquefied natural gas in 2025, supplying almost all of the growth in global LNG exports. According to the figures cited, worldwide LNG exports increased by about 1.2 trillion cubic feet, and the U.S. contributed roughly 1.10 trillion cubic feet of that total.
That means America accounted for about 93% of the additional LNG shipped worldwide during the year. Put simply, nearly all of the market’s expansion came from the United States, a sign of how central the country has become to global natural gas trade.
The scale of that contribution helps explain why the U.S. is now being described as the world’s LNG superpower. Rather than just being one major exporter among several, it emerged as the main source of new supply in a growing market.
The numbers also highlight a broader energy reality: even as markets shift and energy policy evolves, natural gas remains a major part of the global fuel mix. In 2025, the U.S. was the country that most clearly shaped that trend through its outsized role in LNG export growth.
