India-made electric cars posted a sharp rise in overseas shipments in the three months ended June, with exports climbing to 15,641 units from 1,122 units a year earlier, according to industry data. The jump marks a 14-fold increase and points to much faster global uptake of electric vehicles built in India.
The latest quarterly total is especially notable because it already accounts for more than half of the 28,652 electric vehicles exported in the entire last fiscal year. That suggests export momentum has strengthened quickly, with Indian manufacturers finding more room in foreign markets in a relatively short period.
Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra were highlighted as key drivers of this export growth. Their expanding presence overseas reflects rising confidence in India as a production base for electric cars, at a time when buyers in other markets are looking more closely at fuel-saving alternatives.
The report links part of the stronger demand to higher fuel prices tied to the US-Iran war, which has pushed consumers worldwide to consider electric mobility more seriously. With exports accelerating this fast, Indian EV makers appear to be gaining traction well beyond the domestic market.
