Tata Motors strengthened its position in India’s electric passenger vehicle market in July, extending its lead over Mahindra and lifting its share of monthly EV registrations to about 43%. The latest gap between the two automakers reportedly reached nearly 6,000 registrations, underlining Tata’s continued dominance in the segment.
The update comes as electric passenger vehicle demand in India accelerated sharply. Overall EV sales in the country rose by 81.6%, pointing to a broader consumer shift toward electric cars and a faster expansion of the market than in the previous year.
For Tata Motors, the July performance signals that it is still setting the pace in India’s passenger EV space even as competition increases. Mahindra remains one of the key challengers, but the latest registration figures suggest Tata has widened the distance rather than ceded ground.
The strong growth in total EV registrations also highlights a changing market dynamic in India, where rising interest in electric mobility is benefiting leading manufacturers. With Tata Motors holding a sizable share and overall volumes climbing, the passenger EV segment appears to be entering a more competitive and faster-growing phase.
