U.S. stocks started the week with a strong rebound after oil prices dropped sharply, helping fuel a broad market rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added roughly 560 points, while all three major indexes climbed more than 1% early in Monday trading.
The upbeat move was a notable shift from the mood that had dominated much of July. Investors had been worried about higher oil prices, stretched chip-sector valuations, and whether the market's enthusiasm for artificial intelligence spending had run too far, too fast.
Falling crude prices can ease some of those concerns because they may reduce pressure on inflation and improve the outlook for businesses and consumers. That change in the energy picture appeared to give traders more confidence to move back into stocks, including areas tied to the AI theme.
The rally does not erase ongoing questions about chip valuations or long-term AI spending trends. Even so, Monday's action showed how quickly sentiment can turn when one of the market's biggest pressure points, oil, suddenly moves in a more favorable direction.
