A four-person astronaut crew is preparing to launch aboard a SpaceX rocket for a mission to the International Space Station. As part of the launch safety setup, Tesla Cybertrucks are reportedly being positioned to help astronauts in an emergency on the launchpad.
The vehicles are replacing a tactical military transport that was built to withstand landmine blasts. That change puts Tesla’s controversial electric pickup in a role traditionally associated with heavily protected emergency vehicles.
The Cybertrucks would support the crew if an incident required astronauts to leave the launch area quickly. Their use highlights the range of equipment considered for protecting crews during the final stages before a spaceflight.
The planned mission underscores that astronaut safety procedures extend beyond the rocket itself, covering transportation and evacuation options on the ground before departure.
