Antarctica’s Concordia research station recorded a temperature of -119.4°F on July 18, making it the coldest temperature reported anywhere on Earth in 14 years. The reading came from the remote facility on the East Antarctic plateau.

Concordia is operated through a joint French-Italian research effort and remains occupied by a small crew during the Antarctic winter. The extreme reading was recorded twice that morning, according to the available report.
