A new data release from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey is expanding the view of accreting supermassive black holes across the sky. The release comes through the survey’s fifth generation, known as SDSS-V.

Its Black Hole Mapper program is designed to support broad studies of these massive objects and the material accreting around them. The newly available data provide an unprecedented all-sky perspective on the population of active supermassive black holes.
